Enclosing a covered porch
#1
I have an existing porch already enclosed on 3 sides with brick. I have built a kneewall and want to finish it by enclosing it with screen and windows and add a door. The dimensions are 23 feet long and 5 feet tall.
What is the best way to do it myself? Kit? By individual pieces. I would like to use aluminum if at all possible.

Adding an aluminum framed wall system to your existing very simple, but unless you happen to be an authorized contractor for such systems, or know one very well, you can't get the parts. Check into having it done professionally. Probably not as expensive as you think, and if there should happen to be a leak, it will be the contractor finding it, on his nickel, not you on your's.

you can buy the material at local building stores, or you can log on to "screenthight" they will sell you the product. thay say that you can enclose your porch for about $ 180. I would not hire a contractor for such an easy project, save some money. Good luck

I'm not familiar with the "Screentight" site, and what the offer may be exacly what blutotiger is looking for. However, you won't find the proper windows at any local bldg. store for this application, unless they special order them. An enclosed patio or porch is considered "non conditioned space" by the bldg. code, and in order to enclose it legally, you have to maintain 65% of the wall being open to a height of 80". If only half of the window you install is openable, you can't meet this requirement. You need a window that is 100% openable (no stationary panes) to meet it.
