Tennis ball machine: ball returner

We have enclosed a space in the back yard with bird netting that is 80' x 40' on the sides only so that we can play tennis against the ball machine. While this works well in terms of not allowing the balls to end up the neighbor's yards, it does not work well when it comes down to making the balls easy to pick up. Depending on where they land or what they end up behind, it can still be a real nuisance to gather them up after they have been hit.

I'm looking for an option just for the purpose of practicing with the ball machine, that would help funnel the balls back to mostly the right place, but where we could still leave our grass court free for regular play.

Assistance is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forums.

I see no one has taken a stab it this problem. Yes.... it is a problem.

On the pro practice areas.... the ground is hard and pitched a certain direction to a low spot. The balls will roll down to that low spot. You aren't going to get the balls to roll on grass unless you are on a major hill.

You could hang a net across your practice area with a hole cut out for the machine to shoot balls through. So, instead of your balls flying until they drop on their own they would hit the net much closer and drop in a line across the yard.
