Dividing iris - which to keep?

Dumb question, but I've yet to find a definitive answer.

I've got 100+ irises (mostly peach colored, but also blue, purple, almost black, yellow, whitish - to say nothing of the siberian irises).

So I've ignored them in the past. But they need dividing. Which rhizome should I keep? The one that bloomed this year or the smaller ones that shoot off it? How do YOU decide what to keep and what to throw in the yard waste bin (or put on the curb with a 'free' sign)?

Thanks for any input.

Don't worry about it. Iris are very hearty. Just split them. You don't need to worry about which ones bloomed or not.

I don't throw any away. Even the small ones will grow.
