european hidden hinges

What is the best way to strengthen pressboard? I have doors on hi-boy cupboard with hidden hinges that came out. It would be much easier for me to reinforce the holes in the pressboard where the screws came out of the cabinet than to redrill the door and change placement of the screws for the cabinet. I have tried toothpicks, plastic wood and even wellbond but the screws keep pulling the reinforcement out, leaving bigger holes. Any ideas please?

In extreme cases, when all else fails, I have routed a portion of the pressboard out and then cut a new piece of plywood and glued/fastened it in the space.

I do not have anything else better than what you already tried except when I use toothpicks/wood chips I will mix with glue and let it dry before making the new hole; perhaps you did this also.

Hinges

Read a post somewhere the other day where the poster reported success filling holes with liquid nails and then inserting screws.
