cleaning brass hinges and doorknobs
Our ranch house is almost 50 years old. The original hinges and door knobs are in bad shape. New hinges affected the way the doors worked and new knobs have different measurements.
Does anyone know of a way to clean these items.
Thank you.

Hot water and dishwashing detergent and a brush. It will clean them rather well, removing grease, grime, and the remnants of the old lacquer. Let the parts soak for a couple of hours before you start. A tongue depressor would be good for scraping the stubborn areas.
