Hanging lantern from cement ceiling

Hanging lantern from cement ceiling
Hi, I need some help. I am trying to hang a metal lantern from a cement ceiling. The lantern hangs from a metal chain so it is a bit heavy. I am using a drill with a cement bit but I think I hit a metal part because it doesn't go further. I am wondering if I am doing this right or using the right tools and if there is something to check for metal above the ceiling before a make a whole. Thanks!

If you are using a regular drill with a masonry bit, you may have hit a piece of aggregate. A hammer drill is much more efficient and effective for drilling into concrete. It will cut through the aggregate when a rotary drill will not.
There may be metal embedded in the concrete. A stud finder or other strong magnet might detect it for you.
Hope this helps.

Yes , check for any pipes by all means. If it is steel ( like re-bar ) you can drill with a normal steel drill bit till you get through, then continue with a hammer drill or your current drill.
