Shopping for Galvanized Hardware Cloth (a/k/a Wire Mesh, Wire Cloth, Wire Netting)
#1

I have been looking for an economical source for
800 to 1200 feet of Galvanized Hardware Cloth
(wire mesh) with these approximate specifications:
* 48 inch width
* 100 foot rolls
* 19 gauge wire
* 2, 3 or 4 mesh (1/2, 1/3 or 1/4 inch "squares")
I have found that my local "Big box" sources such
as Home Depot and Menards do not offer longer
lengths and, consequently, they are very pricey.
My experience with Internet shopping for galvanized
hardware cloth (a/k/a Wire Mesh, Wire Cloth, etc.)
has been a bit surprising. There is quite a range of
prices in my small survey (six or seven companies)
For example, the price for hot dipped galvanized
wire cloth in 2 mesh (i.e., 1/2" squares) in a wire
diameter of 0.041" (19 gauge) in 4 feet (48 inch)
wide by 100 feet long rolls range anywhere from
$71 to $284 per roll in an order quantity of 8 rolls!
I have found a few decent Internet sources such as:
http://www.twpinc.com/twp/jsp/product.jsp?type=4
Unfortunately, as it is located in CA, the freight
cost to the Great Lakes region is significant.
Does anyone have any recommendations as to how
I might find a better local source?
For instance, I have been trying to think of the
types of businesses that might consume large
quantities of this product for their own internal
needs in hopes of possibly approaching them (or
their supplier) to explore the possibility of cutting
the freight cost by "piggybacking" a pallet of 100'
rolls on their next order.
Does anyone else have any other ideas?
Thanks in advance!

Have you tried your local farm supply or feed & fertilizer company. Down here in NC I'd go visit; Tractor Supply, Camp Chemical, Southern States or any other place where farmers buy their fencing.

Hi Errolholt,
It's quite common here in Western Canada, but as you say the big box places only sell small quantities. I got mine in a Fencing and farm supply place, lots of variety, holes from 1/8 up to 1" . Try the Yellow pages in Fencing, Farm equip. or wire manufacturing.
good luck, if you're persistent enough you'll find it.
