Attaching Curtain Rod to Mystery Wall

I am trying to hang curtain rod hardware on the wall above a window. I am able to drill about 1/2 inch and then I hit something rock solid. Thinking it was block or brick, I got a masonery bit, but it didn't do a thing. What sort of screw or nail could I use that is only 1/2 inch long that would hold up fairly heavy brackets?

Thanks!

jswanson19, Welcome to the DIY Forums.
If you have a brick house, you may be hitting a steel header plate. OR you may just be hitting a nailhead. I don't know of anything a 1/2" long that will hold up heavy brackets. You may have to try moving your holes up or outwards to miss whatever it is you are hitting. Good luck.
