Glass doorknob
#1
I'm having a problem replacing a glass doorknob. I've loosened the set screw and tried to unscrew but nothing happens. Am I missing something?

I can't imagine why the knob wouldn't come off with the steps you have taken. If the threads are messed up, maybe pulling on the knob while turning it to unscrew it would help the threads to engage. I suppose you would have noticed if the glass part was turning and not the threaded metal part, so that wouldn't be it. Can you take the knob off the other side of the door and pull the problem knob and the shaft out of the lock to put it in a vise and work on it that way? Let me know what you find out... this is puzzling!

removing a glass door knob
I was having the same problem. The door is an old bathroom door made about 1925. It has a glass panel on top and wood on the bottom. It has many years of paint on it so I couldn't get the door knob off eighter.
So here's what I did.
I removed the screws, then tapped the knob with a hammer a few times. It began to come loose. One side seemed to get looser than the other, so I took some channel locks and turned and pulled the loose knob around and around until it came off. Be careful not to scratch it if you want to put it back.
