Nails

Folks;
This is something that has always confused me. How do you know what type and what size nails to use? For example I am replacing the soffits on my house. I am using 1/4" plywood the builder used stables so I can't go by that.
I have no nail gun so I must use regular nails. The soffits nails into 2" x 4".
What type and size nail would you recommend? Thank you in advance

Ron

6d galvanized nails or you could even use 2" deck screws.

Since the plywood is only 1/4" thick, I'd used galvanized 4d or 5d. You want to use galvanized for anything exterior, since it could get wet. You only use common and box nails for things that won't be exposed to the weather.

I've moved this thread to the Fasteners forum in the Hardware area of the website, but I'll leave it here too.
