Need to mount exhaust fan in attic--how?
I got a blower fan for a kitchen vent hood that goes in the attic, in the middle of the duct run. The instructions with it are quite vague and there is no hardware with it. It is supposed to be mounted to the framing in the attic. It's basically a big box (about 21" x 21" square, 11" thick), weighs maybe 30 lbs? (not sure). There are no brackets on the box itself. So the directions say "The housing should be hung using metal strapping or fixed mounting brackets (not supplied). The housing should be insulated from the structure by rubber padding (not supplied) to eliminate any potential vibration."
So...just need ideas on what kind of brackets to look for, tips on getting this thing attached to studs in the attic.
Thanks,
Chris

I would use angle iron with the holes in it and some allthread. Sandwich the angle across the top and bottom of the cabinet, front and back with allthread and bolts. Make sure your allthread is long enough for it to extend about a foot or two above the top.
Then you can attach angle to your joists to line up with the allthread.
It sounds tough but once your up there doing it you'll have it hung in no time.

Thanks, that sort of makes sense. I gues allthread are those long rods that are threaded along the entire length? So you are hanging it from above it sounds like. There are also some vertical studs there in the attic (it's right where the ceiling transitions from 8' to 10', so there is kind of a "wall" in the attic) that it could attach to. Would it be better to mount from above or mount to the studs?
Thanks,
Chris
