tek screws

Need some expertise on what tek screws are and how they work. It seems too often when those who install aluminum framed screen porches use some type of hex screw that I assume goes into some type of anchor so base frame can be affixed to concrete.....and of coourse after a few years they rust, look like hell, heads can break off and all that good stuff. A gentlemen was telling me they make a tek screw, not sure how they work, not sure if I have to remove the existing screw so I can use a stainless tek screw; I thought he mentioned you drill out the existing screw and these screw into or around that screw..........confused. I would like to address this issue before all the screw heads break off and there is nothing holding the base to the concrete.

Any suggestions, any education one can offer will be greatly appreicated

the simplest explanation of a tek screw is quite simple:

it is a self drilling/self threading screw. That is it.

there are a great variety of tek screw styles:

Totally Nuts and Bolts Inc. San Fernando Valley Fastener Supplier, TEK Screws

I don't really know what your friend was referring to but a tek screw is not the answer.

You may want to consider using Tapcons since you will be drilling into concrete to fasten a base. Use their bit and over drill the hole by about 1/8", blow out all the dust, or vacuum as you go, then drive the tapcon into the hole.
