Hello, I want to attach a slab of marble to an old treadle sewing machine base to make a table. What is the best way to attach wood 2 X 2's to the marble so I can put screws in from the original holes in the machine base? what would be the best adhesive for this?

You may not need to attach wood. If the treadle has 4 or so flat spots on the frame that the slab can sit on..blobs of silicone sealant/adhesive should hold it just fine. Of course not a good idea to pick it up by the marble afterwards...but this is what I did for an old Singer base and slab...and it worked well. You could even lift it by the slab.
Same method would work for attaching the wood if you need the height. Build the frame flat and square..then glue to the slab.
