What size is this screw?

I have a part or size screw which I do not understand. It is an M8 x L19. Can someone please tell me if this is a Metric or American Standard size and what do the numbers mean? Thanks BTW, it is the screw that mounts an LED LCD TV to a wall mount. Samsung couldn't help me with that, would you believe? Thanks

It's metric. The first designates the diameter and the pitch of the threads...the second is the length. Normally you'd see it as M8 x 19.

Thank you gunguy45 for your response. It was what I needed. I had a remote feeling that the M stood for Metric and it is plain now that the L stands for Length. I wasn't sure what the numbers stood for. I guess 19 means that it is 19mm long. and 8 means 8 threads per mm. I'll have to remember that. Thanks again and have a good Happy Holiday.

Actually...except for the length...I don't know that the M8 means what you said. It's not the same as the SAE system where it's all in the name...ie 1/4 x 20 x 1" (1/4" nominal diameter, 20 threads per inch, 1" long).

The M8 designates several things as I understand, but the M doesn't stand for metric I don't think, and the 8 indicates a diameter as well as a thread pitch (though it can't be 8 per mm, since a mm is very small) if a diff pitch isn't stated in the designation.

Maybe one of our engineer types can give a better explanation.

That link was pretty clear. Thanks wirepuller38. I think I know what to look for now. I hope our local hardware stores carry this size. Thank you all for your help.

Did you find the screw? Seems to me like it's some random size that only Samsung supplies so you buy their official wall mount kit. When I google that size, it only shows up here and in Samsung forums.
