Is there such a thing as a double-ended lag bolt with r/h thread on one end, and l/h thread on the other? I need hardware to pull two curved wooden surfaces together with little or no space remaining between them. The two surfaces are 8-10 inch diameter peeled poles.

Your problem will be that you will either have to turn the poles themselves or leave a space for a pair of locking pliers to clamp on to the center shank of the bolt.
If you want them tight could you drill and countersink through one, then install the lag bolt, then plug the hole? Like is done with stair posts?
