remove metal fasteners

I have a wooden ladder with metal fasteners (rivets) that I want to remove to use both sides of the ladder for a craft project.

Use a center punch in the center of the rivet to make a dimple...then use a drill bit slightly larger than the hole the rivet goes thru. Drill the head off and punch the rivet out. May not need to dimple it if the rivets are open on one end with a rolled edge.

If they spin when drilling...you may have to grind the heads off with a Dremel tool and a reinforced cutting wheel or a regular angle grinder with a metal cutting disk.

Once you do this, destroy the ladder after it is used for your craft project as it will not be safe to use for its intended purpose with these braces removed.
