repairing aluminum step ladder

We've got several 6' aluminum step ladders and they all have developed the same problem -- one of the braces no longer locks and is able to collapse downwards thus making the ladder dangerous.

Anyone know of something that can repair this?

Thanks.

It is not safe to try and repair something like a ladder. I would not trust a repaired ladder for safety. It may be the ladders are of a cheaper quality and have just failed due to inferior materials at key stress points.

I would replace them with higher end ladders, especially if you have them in use for employees.

I agree with Chandler.....for liability.....this is one thing you would not want to jerry-rig.

Replacement spreaders are available for quality ladders that are in otherwise good condition.

What grade are these ladders? If they are Type III [homeowner duty] I'd scrap them out and get new ladders. I'm partial to Type I [or IA] which is industrial duty. Those ladders are a little heavier but are less likely to wobble as they age. I'm also partial to the Werner brand

Another vote for replacement instead of repair due to liability concerns.
