I need to know what is the best thing to use to fasten posts for porch rails to a brick front porch. I really want them to be strong. I have used those metal post brackets before and they are not that strong.\

Any help appreciated.

if i understand you correctly you wish to attach wooden posts ? to the brick front of your porch

If you are going to cut a notch into the posts and overhang them over the side you can drill holes with a masonry bit 2 per post should do it

Then use metal lag shields in the brick holes and secure the posts with zinc plated or galvanized 1/2" lag bolts 2 or 3 inches long should be plenty of holding power

PS wrap a piece of masking tape around your masonry bit at the desired depth so you know when to stop

hope this helps------josh
