Splice wood posts

I am splicing two 4x4 posts together with a lap joint. I want to use bolts through the joint but am looking for some type of bolt so that there isn't a nut, washer and stick through on the one side. I'd like it to look like two bolt heads on each side. Any fasteners like that?
This isn't really a structural connection. I want to extend the height of a gate post to stretch a header across the top to get it plumb. The other side is my garage. The extension will be about 18".
Thanks for you help.

Sounds like you are describing a sex bolt. Or maybe a carriage bolt on one side and a 1/4x20 barrel nut on the opposite side.

You would probably need to use 3 or 4 of them through the joint to immobilize it or it will wiggle.

Just use a Forster bit to counter bore a hole as big as the washer is so the nut and waster are counter sunk.

T-nuts can be used on one side and the bolt head (hex) recessed on the other. You don't need an expensive Forstner bit. A spade bit works fine. Drill your recess first then use the the concave center left by the spade bit to center your hole for the bolt shank.

Binding posts. Remove the male bolt and replace with a pan head bolt of the appropriate length/size/thread. I am sure you can find them cheaper. The Hillman Group 3/8 in. x 2-1/16 in. Stainless-Steel Architectural Binding Post (6-Pack)-44789 - The Home Depot
