Nyloc nut failure

Hi,

Any one know why a SS Nyloc nut fails (Nylon washer squeezes out) while used with Galvanized bolt but not with SS bold of same dimension ?

Galvinized is slightly bigger and rough.
Just use a galvinized lock washer.

I agree with Joe. HDG is way too rough for nyloc. Why use SS on HDG anyway?

Thank you Joe and Chan for your responses

1. As Joe said, Roughness of HDG, could be the main reason.

2. There are nuts from alternate suppliers which work well with HDG for the same application. So i guess Nylon insert property also plays an important role.

3. I don't know the design consideration of using SS nut on HDG bolt.
Do you mean lock washer is the ideal for HDG bolts ?
If we use HDG nuts in place of SS nuts, will it cause Galling ?

Why not use HDG nuts and HDG lockwashers ?
Galling.... I don't see why unless you overtighten them too much.

I have no idea of what you are trying to secure but why not use two-way reversible lock nuts? https://www.boltdepot.com/Two-way_re...ted_steel.aspx I use these on the front axles of my lawnmower project and they work very well.

Or, use jam nuts along with regular hex nuts. Or use a Locktite product.

(I have no connection with the Bolt Depot except as a satisfied customer.)

I was trying to understand the reason for Nylon protrusion in HDG bolt. Joe and Chandler answered it right.
Thank you all.
