Holes in sides of my "New with defects" bolts
First, I thought I was getting grade 5 bolts based on the ad but the lines that indicate it aren't on the nut. No big deal because I wanted the cheapest I could get and these were the cheapest. But I'm wondering about the holes. Each bolt has a tiny hole going from one side of the hex to the next side. It doesn't penetrate the threads. Is this done on purpose to show they're defects or is the hole the defect? They all seem to fit the bolt I want them to fit (I tested two).

I found the answer.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safety_wire
"For certain applications where safety wiring is common, fasteners come pre-drilled with holes to accept safety wire."
I have to do more than a minute of research next time. And I have to figure out what kind of review to give the seller now.
