How to remove a plastic drywall anchor from a masonry wall

A while back I installed a cantilever shelf on a masonry wall, and instead of self-tapping screws or masonry anchors, I used regular wood screws with regular plastic drywall anchors.

What I would like to know, is if there is a way to remove these plastic drywall anchors, completely.

There are several types of anchors for drywall unfortunately when removed the hole will need to be patched.

I typ just use a pair of needle nose plyers to pull out or a hammer and screw driver/punch to knock it into the wall.

I have tried pulling out with long nose pliers, but it does not work at all, and this is not drywall, it is a masonry wall; it is not possible to punch through a masonry wall.

Try a large drill bit, like 3/8" to remove the bulk of he plastic then you should be able to pry out.

Why remove it? I've always found it easier/quicker to just knock them in a little bit and mud over them.

If you must remove it, use the drill idea and then patch the hole.

I've always used a different screw, partially screwed in and a pliers to pull the anchor out, or use the screw as leverage and use the claw side of a hammer.

Anchor Removal

Use a small, flat blade screw driver to pry between the masonry and the anchor to loosen the anchor and then pull out with needle nose pliers.
