mixing hardware grades

mixing hardware grades

Is there any harm in mixing a grade 2 bolt with grade 8 nuts and washers?

Absolutely no harm at all. Just keep in mind that your fastener is only grade 2.

It's always best to keep consistent, you wouldn't want to spend extra money on a higher grade that was not needed.

Also need to assume the performance will be that of the lowest grade (weakest link).

It all depends on the application, I've mixed the grades a lot on non critical applications. If the job requires the extra strength then it all needs to be grade 8.
