Special threaded wood insert?
I’m looking for a specific wood insert for an upright lamp. Below are few photos of the one that broke apart. The internal thread is the constraint that I’m having difficulty finding. I tried the EZ-Lok 1/2-20 insert but it only goes on about half turn The internal threads are about 18 threads per inch (TPI) and 1/2” diameter. The length needs to be about 1” at least. The external threads are not as much of a concern since it goes into soft wood. Does anyone know of a source?

Some type of threaded insert, might be metric!
Look on this site, they have everything!

I agree, if it only goes in 1/2 a turn my guess also would be it's metric.
The outside of the broken one you removed is what's called an Acme thread.
Notice there's no points on the pointed tips of the threads.
Any hardware store I've even been in has a sample board of nuts both metric and english that you could try instead of having to buy a real thread gauge.

Probably not the correct thread, but there are others available.

And Marq's suggestion of McMaster is a great one! Not only do they have everything, but you can buy everything in (somewhat) reasonable quantities. Not quite like the big box store bags of 5 bolts, but pretty close if you really need something special.

Thanks everyone for the responses! I’ll check them out.
Answering the question about the function: it locks together 2 threaded hollow rods (like one in third photo) and a lamp wire runs through the rods to power the lamp.
