How to remove oil from new chain?

I bought 3 feet of new 5/16" welded steel chain and it's thoroughly coated in oil. I do not have a parts washer. What is an efficient way to remove the oil, hopefully not involving any solvent that's high in VOCs?

I appreciate any help.

If it were me, I'd cut off the top of a milk jug, soak in about a quart of diesel fuel, then use it to start the next bon fire.

Coated in oil, doubtful soap and water are going to make a big improvement, you need some type of solvent!

No, I haven't tried anything yet thinking I didn't want to waste resources and time if someone had a simple method that worked well. Do you suggest a particular kind of soap?

A dishwashing soap like Dawn or Lestoil will work.

#1, Why does it even need to be degreased?
I never would, but if I had to I'd just run it through a cycle in the dish washer next time I was doing dishes, or spray it with an Orange cleaner or Simple Green and hit it with a hose.
