Want to hang a shelf in bathroom

Last year we had our bathroom remodeled. I want to add a shelf to a wall that has 3/8" bead board over drywall. While the shelf will not hold very heavy items, I want to make sure that the shelf is secure. Can I use regular screws with a plastic sheath, or does this call for butterfly anchors? The beadboard was attached with a combination of adhesive and nailgun fasteners

It depends on the shelf and what it uses for brackets.
If you can leave a link to it or post a picture we can comment better.
How to insert pictures.

Is it feasible to position the shelf where you can secure it to studs?
