Lifetime warranty on hand tools - any cross honoring you know of?

I have loads of craftsman hand tools.

With Sears closed, it's been a chore going to Lowes, trying to find an equvalent tool still made under the craftsman name and then going through trying to get it replaced under warranty.

Yeah, 'lifetime' warranty always seemed hard to rely on.

Anyone know of a company - Home Depot and their Husky brand? Lowes and Kobalt? Harbor Freight? That will take your broken craftsman tool, replace it with their store brand hand tool that also has a lifetime warranty as a way to get you coming into their store vs. someone elses?

I can hope : )

It looks like you can do it online: https://support.craftsman.com/hc/en-...nty-on-my-tool

I have not heard of any store, other than one carrying Craftsman tools, that will honor their warranty.

Didnt Craftsman change the rule here about 5 or 10 years ago? Some kind of limited warranty now. I may be wrong, but seems like I remember something about that. Seems like it was either just before or just after they went from Sears to Lowes. I think Ace Hardware also carry's Craftsman hand tools.

Lowes is selling "Craftsman" tools but I don't know about the warranty for old Sears tools.

Yes, new craftsman tools have 'x year warranty' now.

In theory, the old tools still have the warranty they were sold with.

But who's / what's lifetime? You die? The company dies? Or the tool dies (breaks). Well that's the end of the tool's lifetime : )

You need to take "lifetime warranty" with a grain of salt.
Most of these warranties are just a selling plus.

I'm tired of hearing "well..... we've discontinued that model and are only obligated to honor the warranty for seven years after production".

Ya, a few yrs ago the front lifetime shocks died on my old pick up. Took them back to autozone and surprise surprise - those shocks are no longer made. To their credit they did refund my original purchase price - $40 for the pair. Not that you can even buy one shock for that price today.
