Fastening 2X6 boards

I am building a playset. I have to fasten 3 - 2X6's together. The plans call to use a 3X1/2" lag screw. If I drill a 3/4" counterbore for these will that be secure to hold it all together.

I wouldn't trust it. I'd use a 3-1/2" hex head bolt - counter bore 3/4" from BOTH sides. This way all the hardware is recessed and you reaching through all 3 2X6's. Use a flat washer on the bolt head side and a lock washer on the other side.
