Attaching 1x2 Furring to Cedar Logs

I'm about to side over my cedar log home (cuz of a reeeally bad paint job). I've received conflicting advice about how to attach the furring strips to the the cedar walls (the "logs" are actually milled 3x6's, so provide a lot of flat nailing surface).

I'm thinking of going with coated 2 inch deck screws, but would like to hear what others have to say.

That sounds like a whole lot more work than repainting? Have you considered that.. just an option.

Hope this helps--Josh
