Unhappy Canker Sores

Cancre sores!! No one knows how or why they start, and there is no way to treat them! I can't handle that, I get about 2 cancre sores in the inside of my lip at least 1 a month. Let me tell you
OUCH! I am told they are brought on by stress... but honestly I don't think that I am that stressed. I try OTC(over the counter) ointments to numb the pain, but all they do is cause 30seconds of agonizing pain along w/ the pain of the cancre sore, than it numbs it for about 5mins. Does anyone have any suggestions to get rid of them, or treat the pain? Thanks.

try lysine for canker sores. sometimes eating things high in arginine can cause an outbreak ie redmeat or certain nuts

there is no cure all for cancres. Like many problems, the trick is a complete protocol and a change in lifestyle to get your body in harmony with nature. Start with a fresh juice diet . If you dont already have a juicer, get one. It is the most valuable thing you will ever purchase.

Is it the same thing as biting your inner lip? I did this occasionally when I was a kid and my mom put a combination of baking soda and peroxide on the bumps. Tasted awful, but it did seem to help.

The baking soda is actually sodium bicarbonate. Sodium bicarbonate buffers acid there for it has a tendency to raise the pH of things. You mouth sore is acidic (low PH) the sodium bicarbonate moves the sore closer to natural witch is a pH of 7.3-7.4 in the human body. The sodium peroxide kills bacteria that might prolong the sore by preventing secondary infection.

I used to suffer from canker sores all the time, sometimes several at once. They appeared to be caused acidic food and beverages. I don't know if nuts are acidic, but they can be a problem, maybe because they cause small tears.

Now I almost never get cankers sores and, when I do, I can usually get rid of them before they get really painful. If I consume something acidic, I brush my teeth as soon as possible--or rinse with mouthwash. I used to carry a bottle of Chloroseptic throat spray or any knockoff brand. That worked, but I began to worry that the contents are not safe, especially if you take it all the time.

Various products were suggested to me, such as acidophilus, but none worked at all. My solution is so simple, I don't understand why it isn't widely known. It may be that it won't work for everyone.

Please let me know how this works for you.

Good luck.

I asked my doctor what to do about these. He told me to use a SMALL amount of peroxide.

That night I went home and poured a little between my lip and teeth--the next morning it was gone! Talk about surprised!

ME TOO!!! Was just looking for info on these damn sores myself when I found this site and your entry.I've been told the same things and tried everything myself. I work as an Assistant in a Dental office and still haven't gotten any answers. Recently the Dentist I work for told me that he heard that it could be related to Vit B5 deficiency. I'm now trying to research this and am going to try suppliments, Can't hurt anyway. Hope this helps us both.

I even work as an Assistant in a dental office. Recently the Dentist I work for told me that he heard that this can be the result of a Vit B5 deficiency. Dude, listerine will kick canker sores butt. Ten minutes at a time 3 times a day. And make sure the listerine is all over the canker sore untill the canker gets numb. This is also a great fix for when you're about to eat. 10 minutes before you eat numb the canker with listerine and you're good to go.

If this method works for you pass it on and help others that feel our pain.

I wrote above that I stopped having canker sores when I brushed my teeth or used mouthwash right after eating acidic food (including acidic fruit juices), but I found out that this can harm tooth enamel, which I have done. As for the Lysterine cure, a dentist told me using it once a day is fine, but not often and not right after eating acidic food.

Listerine is acidic.

If having frequent bouts of canker sores, consult with your physician. Canker sores can be a symptom of an underlying disease or or other problem.

It's been my experience that most doctors don't care about canker sores - I guess they think it isn't important enough for them to be bothered with

I used to really be plagued with them and got no real help from any of the doctors I asked. Our pharmist was a great help. He told me to take a spoonfull of liquid bendryl and a spoonfull of antacid [mixed together in a glass], rinse my mouth with it and swallow. It works great!!! at least on me
I don't get canker sores like I used to but since using this concoction, I've been able to get rid of them in a few days instead of a few weeks

Two things that really healp, fast!

I have tried everything for mouth sores including Lysine and Acidophilus with no results.

Two things help:
1. An over the counter rinse called Rincinol available at Walgreens near the moputhwashes.
2. A prescription called Famvir which, if taken at the first sign of tingling of a cold sore will usually stop an outbreak.

I wonder if monkeys get them?

During the years I ate bananas like they were going out of style, I can't recall that pain in my mouth like I now once again have from time to time. (I got sick of eating bananas and rarely have one anymore.)

I was also curious if canker sores were at all related to Herpes Simplex -a theory I had until reading in the provided link from twelvepole, that says they do not suspect viral causes.

I always had canker sores as a child. When I was in my teens they pretty much stopped. It wasn't until I was an adult that I figured out the cause. It took me a while to connect the dots.

When I became old enough to frequent bars, I noticed that if the bar was excessively smokey, the next day I would get canker sores. It got to the point that I could predict canker sores based on the level of smoke. When I was a child my mother was a heavy smoker, and I was often closed up in a car with her. When I was a teenager, she quit smoking and the sores stopped coming.

I have not had a canker sore since Ohio adapted a smoking ban.

I cant confirm the link from smoke to cankers.. since I've smoked a pack a day for the last 25+ yrs.
I used to get cankers when I was a young lad.. maybe a dozen times a year or so. When I was in my 20's I would get maybe one or two a year. I dont recall getting one now since about 30 (14yrs ago).
That's about the time I met my current wife.. she's not an ultra-clean-freak or anything.. but she does pay alot of heed to the ick of public areas (she's a nurse, btw). I guess it rubbed off on me, and I started paying way more attention to proper handwashing in a public area (like, grab a bit of towel to turn the knobs off, use a bit of towel to open the bathroom door etc.. ).

Maybe it's a fluke, I dunno.

/sidenote: since the smoking ban locally here, we've save a bunch of money.. we dont go to the bars at all anymore, and very rarely out to dinner.
