couch potato

Being a couch potato works for me, but you have to work hard at it. In reallty look at the health food section of the food store. There are losts of fat builders, protien drinks, etc.

Weight gain

A good place to start is with your doctor. You may have underlying disorder, such as a hyperactive thyroid, that may be keeping you too thin. If everything checks out, then more than likely you are simply genetically programmed to be thin. If one or both of your parents or other relative is thin, then there is evidence.

Depending upon which weight chart you look at, you will find variations in recommended weights for you height as much as 40 pounds or more. One must keep in mind the size of the body frame, too. A little-boned person who is programmed to be thin and who is very active will burn off any extra calories consumed. If you feel well and are in good health, then one can assume that all is well.

A consultation with a dietition about your eating habits and suggestions for weight gain may be helpful. If you have insurance, then a referral by your physician may help get insurance for this.

Weight gain powders and protein drinks offer no advantage over healthy food from the grocery store, and they tend to cost more.
Making adjustments in your activity level, as already suggested may help. Becoming a couch potato, may help with weight gain, but may not be good for your over all well-being and health. All things considered, it is difficult for some to gain weight. If it's any consolation, skinny people tend to live longer.

Cool same here

Hey dude, i'm 14 going on 15 and i am about 5'4" and i stay between 100-105 in my weight. i posted gaining weight healthy and fast today. i am skinny and muscular but i want to gain weight too. i lift weights, work in the yard, ride bikes, etc. I just can't be a couch potato because i am so active and used to going all the time. i know it helps to drink alot of liquid like water and to take in some protein(for you and me around 60 grams a day). I take in protein, healthy carbs from fruit, and calories from some junk and some food before i go to bed. by doing this in less than a year i gained about 15-20 pounds and grew around 5 inches but i am still smaller than everyone else. for your calorie and carb intake, make sure you eat some before you go to bed. Peanut butter and jelly sandwich will be fine with a glass of milk. if you want to, get you some One Source vitamins for Teens that helps some on getting the right nutrients. that is about all i know right now. good luck and post a reply soon please.i can give you advice on weight traning to if you need it, that helped me to grow and gain wieght but you will eat constantly and be sore the first few workouts.if you want to try that post it and i will give you all of the info.

relax

Being a couch potato was a joke. You are way to young to worry about weight. Just keep working out and by the time you get to high school your going to break a lot of hearts. Just keep eating the right stuff, and forget about the weight gain fads. If you are working out your size wont matter cause no one in thier right mind is going to mess with you.

Cool i agree with willy

hey the only people that messed with me were my old friends and boy did i get them. i will tell you if you have cut calves, biceps, abs or something like that girls will love you as long as you aren't stuck up and mean to them and everyone else. it worked for me and i was one of the smallest in my freshman class. i am just trying to gain weight so i can get more cut and more built iin my legs, chest, and arms. Good Luck dude and freshman initiation is nothing to worry about because they didn't bother me. if anything, try to be friendly with everyone else and make some friends with some football players or something.

Thumbs up Same Issue All My Life...I can relate!

To: Sparklle
From: Purist

My Dilemma: Scrutinized for my weight since age 3. Began w/ my father, escalated to peers.

My genetics: Always smallest frame in my classroom/workplace/church/organizations...you name it.
At age 34, 5 ft 5 1/2 in, 105 pds, I am a true size zero.

Where I shop: TJ Maxx, Petite Sophisticate, Ann Taylor Petite, a few specialty boutiques and select department stores. Anywhere I can find size zero. Some size zeros are even too large!

Eating Habits History: Junk, junk, junk!!! Consisting of a lot of chocolate, tons of bad carbs, protein/weight-gain shakes = BAD FOR YOU!!!

Current Eating Habits: My screen name says it all! Purist, purist, purist!!! All....and I mean I consume ALL organic elements, girl. No additives, no preservatives, no hormones in lean meats (I rarely eat meat). Soy is a controversial topic, yet I consume it on rare occasion. I make sure I am hydrated at ALL times; make sure I stay regular (2 to 3 BM's a day) spells plenty of fibrous elements; fruits, vegetables, grains. Above all: Organic, organic, organic. I always do my research. You cannot go wrong. Still, you ask, "...but Purist, how do you gain weight nutritiously?"

Try this: A) Exercise: balance cardio (but not TOO much cardio) w/ free and Nautilous weight training; you will obviously not build bulk; rather you will tone. B) Protein such as beans, LEAN meats (free from hormones), seafood (fish, pref. salmon). Eat proteins every meal and before everything in meals. Drink water AFTER, not before each meal so you don't fill up before you eat. Never, I repeat, NEVER skip a meal!!! You don't want your stomach muscle to shrink, rather you want to encourage a healthy appetite. Remember: the more you eat and stretch that stomach muscle, the more you will have an appetite and have that desire to eat. AND, you want to monitor your calorie consumption vs burn. You don't want to burn more than you consume, otherwise you will not reach your desired weight. Make sense? Hope this helps, Chickie. Anymore questions, feel free to drop me a line. Good luck!!

Thumbs up Go ahead gain weight!

Firstly,
the main equation to look at to gain weight is to:
eat more than what you use up...

secondly, a safe weight gain would be 2-4 pounds per
month; so that you don't injure yourself while gaining weight.

Thirdly, there are specific types of foods that are good to gain weight upon:

Nuts, such as cashews, walnuts and almonds are all healthy high-calorie snacks. Prunes topped with almond butter, are sweet with natural sugar in the prunes, but a source of healthy fats can be found in the almond butter.

When you’re trying to increase your weight, you increase your calories while monitoring your caloric burn. However, you want to increase your calories with “good sources of healthy types of fats, healthy types of proteins and healthy types of carbohydrates.”

Healthy Fats

Avocadoes (great source of potassium), almond butter (healthy protein source) and olive oil are all good sources of healthy fats. The avocadoes are also a very satisfying snack, and you can add them to sandwiches as a way to increase calories in other meals.

Proteins
If you’re trying to gain weight, each day 2-3 of your snacks and 3 meals should contain protein.

Omega-3 eggs, salmon, plain organic yogurt, chicken and turkey are all good sources of protein.

As far as red meat is concerned, organic beef and eating lean beef no more than once or twice per week because it is higher in saturated fats.

Carbohydrates
Some higher glycemic index carbohydrates such as carrots, corn and potatoes, that are typically avoided by people trying to lose weight are great for those trying to put on some pounds.

Hope this helps a little bit!
