hypnosis to reduce stress
Has anyone ever used hypnosis or heard of anyone who did?
What are your experiences and thoughts?
Thanks a lot in advance.

Although it was not reffered to as hypnosis, I was treated with a method that involves many hypnosis based ideas for post traumatic stress syndrome.
While at the moment of treatment, I couldn't claim success, I did overcome my problem. I do believe it had some value to it. It is a widely used method in the medical profession and I was reffered to this person by a medical doctor so apparently many very well educated people believe in this method as well.
So based upon my personal experience, I do believe hypnosis could have a real value in a stress reducing capacity.
Meditation, either individually or in conjunction with a yoga exercise is also beneficial. Meditation, if done properly can actually be a form of self hypnosis.

Hypnosis works for some people, not others. I've never been hypnotized, but I filled out a personality test for it once and it said I was a bad candidate for hypnosis. There are lots of ways to reduce stress, I don't think hypnosis is a bad idea, but I think there are better things to try first. Twelvepole's exercise suggestion is also my first choice.

Been there done that. Professionals with lots of letters behind thier names have tried to hypnotize me and no luck. Im hypnosis immune. Exercise is excellent but I find that I still dwell on issues while working out. However, play a game of hockey, baseball, raquetball etc and its impossible to be thinking about anything but the game.

Exercice has been tried before, psychologist as well.
When she does activity, she does forget it. You cant think about anything bad if you're out camping, but it all returns when she's at home alone.
And, I cant be with her 24/7.

We're in an appartment for the moment, so gardenning is a bit difficult.
Going for walks is fine, but it doesn't do much, it does relieve it a bit.
The problem is the past, not on-going stress. Most of those activities will just remove the on-going stress which is minimal at this time.
She will go see a psychologist, and I will make sure it's a good one. The previous one was a school psychologist, so she did not have much personal time, always rushed.

EMDR is the process I spoke of earlier. It is like many other treatments, some docs agree with it, some think it's hooey.
You do not really explain what "she forgets" but it does sound as if PTSD is a possibility.
If you have had no success otherwise, what is there to lose with an attempt at EMDR.
I will tell you that I had an extreme case of PTSD and now have very few problems relating to the original trauma. Like I said, I can't really vouch that it worked but I did experience it and am now pretty much healed. Coincidental? Possibly, but then again, maybe not.

Thanks nap, I will explore that route. I know there's no sure fire cure, and it won't be easy. But, I am patient, and will do anything in the world to help her.

Close enough - I'm old enough that a young adult is still a child in my mind. Anyone having trouble dealing with stress at this age needs immediate help, as they really don't even know what stress is yet. If they don't learn to manage what little stress they have now, they are headed for disaster when real life stress hits. Please post back if you need further help.

Trust me, she knows what stress is. She's gone through a lot more then I will go through in the rest of my life combined.
Scheduling with a good private psychiatrist this week, and see how that goes. Will try to regulate her sleeping habits as well, and might bring her to a spa or something similar to kind of get her away from the small stress factors so she can concentrate on the big one, deal with that one, and hopefully move on with her life.
I've gone through that link, EMDR, and might consider it if this step does not work. So, again, thanks
