teeth whitening

hi i was wondering if anyone in here has tried teeth whitening. i want my teeth to be white for a special event, but i don't want to spend a ton of money. i don't usually get sucked in to the appearance facade, but i want to make a little change!

i was wondering if there was an inexpensive way to get it done well. i work w/ the people at aquafresh and one of the girls at work tried the new aquafresh whitening trays. she said they worked really well and they got whiter in about three days. what are you experiences w/ teeth whitening? thanks

Teeth whitening. HHmmm. Have you ever seen the episode of "Friends" where Ross got his teeth whitened? Hilarious.

I've never used any of the whitening methods but I do have a Consumers Reports magazine that lists Ultrabrite All In One Advanced Whitening as the only toothpaste (of 41) they tested that is listed as "excellent stain removal".

That would be a good place to start for whiter cleaner teeth.

I have also read/heard to be careful about over using the whitening products. They can damage your teeth.

Some people simply do not have bright white teeth and can never have them no matter how much bleaching. Although we all have white teeth, some are simply whiter and others are more off white. If you have ever had to select a crown to match your teeth, the dentist whips out a wide selection of colors from which you choose. Unfortunately, mine was not the bright white. My bookkeeper has BIG white teeth. Mine are green with envy.

nap, I've seen that episode of Friends. HILARIOUS! Poor guy. That's the first thing I thought of when I read this thread. Kinda makes me not want to do any of the teeth whitening kits.

Let us know how it goes.

BTW: Ross used some gel type and left it on longer than recommended.

sadlunch, how'd it go?

Just thought about you as I recently glanced at my teeth last week and had a trip to the dentist this past weekend.

When I looked at my teeth in the bathroom and they looked almost ALL yellow! I was so freaked out, I wouldn't smile anymore. Well...at least not showing my teeth.

Talked to my dentist and asked for help and/or suggestions. Now I know this may be obvious for others but it didn't strike me. One must view teeth in true day light. Go outside or by the window. According to my dentist, my teeth are fine and NOT yellow. I'm not even close to it. Whew.

a word of caution: these whitening products can cause or increase sensitivity. and overuse can damage enamel.

my dentist told me that anything that can be purchased at the drug store simply does not have a powerful enough amount of the whitening agent to work very well. but if your teeth are just topically stained from coffee, tea, blueberries, smoking, etc you'll probably have good results. however, if your teeth are naturally a more off-white color, you won't achieve a white-white with the OTC products.

another tip, if you're really self conscious about the color of your teeth, avoid wearing white tops. white when up close to your face, will only serve as a tool of unfavorable comparison. in other words, most everyone's teeth will seem yellow compared to a crisp white shirt!

also.......i'm curious & confused as to why you're even asking these questions here, if you WORK AT AQUAFRESH and have a coworker who has used something & tells you it works. is this a spam advertisement?

My experience with Teeth Whitening

I tried the crest white strips and didnt like them because they were too sloppy. They did work a little bit but not by much. My dentist sold me the Dr. Collins All White Bleaching System and It worked really good. It was kinda expensive but thats probably because I bought it from him. I found it for really cheap on noadvertising. Oh and I have sensitive teeth and only felt very little discomfort. hope this helps, good luck.

have used the Crest whitening strips and they do work. it will take a week or two to show improvement. as stated however, they can cause sensitivity. i usually use a toothpaste with a whitening agent in it with no problems. the best way i have seen(and done) is to let the dental hygienist use baking soda for cleaning. kind of messy, but works in minutes. SHOW THOSE PEARLY WHITES!!

I've been seeing a lot of free trial teeth whitening offers online lately. They seem really great and powerful but I'm curious to know if anyone has tried them yet. These are whiteners that say they can work a lot faster than Crest whitening strips or other over-the-counter whiteners. Anyone?

I decided to jump in and try one of those free trial teeth whiteners. I'm a little nervous about it but I found a pretty trustworthy site that someone else told me about. Anyway, I'll let everyone knows how it goes. I found a site that has reviewed a couple different types of whiteners. I went with the first one mainly because they say it works the fastest and I only had to pay a few bucks for shipping: *************

I'll keep everyone posted when I get it and if I see any results.

I wouldn't trust anybody other than my dentist on this. We could try all those over the counter toothpastes or strips as much as we want. The dentists would still be the persons to trust.
