Crazy to remove electric baseboards?
I'm trying to redo my living room and I have these old, very unattractive electric baseboard heaters which of course I would never use because they cost a mint to run.
My other heating system is gas, but it's cheesy ... a passive upright gas heater downstairs (no fan), and a gas fireplace insert upstairs.
I've been told it would cost around 5K to put in a real furnace, which I can see doing next year. In the meantime, would it be crazy to remove the electric baseboards from the living room? What do you think?
PS, I'm trying to remove one right now so I can steam off the wallpaper behind it, but I'm not having much luck. Is there a trick to getting them off? I've taken out tons of screws on the back but it's stuck as firmly as ever.
PSS, Yes, I'm a novice at all this.

Have you ran a sharp knife all around it there at the wall?
Go to http://www.warmair.net and compare fuel cost for where you are. that will tell you how to go for fuel.
