Zone Control Question

I have a one-and-a-half story house with a single heat pump unit. The upstairs stays quite a bit warmer than the first floor. We've tried closing down outlets on the first floor with no help. A friend said a 2 zoned system would solve the problem and be cheaper than another entire heat pump unit. The house is about 1800 square feet. I'd like an upstairs zone and a downstairs zone. Anyone have a guess at what that might cost?

Zoning

I advise against zoning an existing system, in fact I advise against zoning period. Your system has to move a given amout of air. If you zone it, you have to make provisions for dumping excess air somewhere. You would be far better off with a second system, in my opinion.

I agree with Grady. If you have attic or crawl space above the 2nd story put and airhandler up there and condition the space with it's own system.

We couldn't give an estimate on cost without being there. Call and get at least 3 estimites on the job.
