Having trouble with a/c on Tempstar heat pump
We have a Tempstar heat pump, model no. NPHAD24NIK2, about 8-9 years old.
The trouble is the compressor is running a short cycle time. We leave the t-stat on about 80-85 during the day while we are at work, but to cool the house in the evenings, we have to gradually step the t-stat down to try to get the house to about 70, that's about as cool as we can get it. If we set it on 68-70, the unit will come on, run for about 5-10 minutes, then the compressor will kick off but the fan will continue to run. After a few minutes the compressor with come back on for a few seconds then kick off again, fan still running. It will keep doing this until we up the temp on the t-stat a little, then start in with the step down process again. It usually takes about an hour or so to get to a somewhat comfortable temp, but we are still having to use ceiling and floor fans as well. The air coming from the vents is not cold air, just barely cool, and it's not removing the humidity from the air inside. If we use the stove/oven or the clothes dryer, it has a tough time trying to remove the extra heat ceated by them as well.
Any help would be appreciated because it is summertime in the south and the hot weather is still yet to come, even though it's about 90 now.

You should set it at one temp and leave it. There is no way to remove the humidity in a few hours it takes days to get it out. The short cycling could be due to low charge or dirty filter.
