Condenser Replacement

Storm debris knocked a pretty good size hole in my Carrier condenser. My insurance deductable is pretty high so filing a claim is a joke. The system is only a couple years old. I had an estmate to replace it for about $2k but was looking at it yesterday and the job is pretty simple. What are the arguements against replacing it myself and hiring a contractor to test and recharge it?

The most you can do legally is set it on the pad and maybe hook the electric up to it. The refrigeration side must be done by a epa liscensed tech.
