Question Zone System Heat Pump

I have a heat pump with aux heat strips and a zoned system for upstairs and down. I am trying to replace my programmable thermostats and the zone controller. I have a Honeywell trol-A-temp system with the honeywell 8611 thermostats. I have bought a new Honeywell EMM-3U Zone control system and 2 Honeywell RTH7400 Thermostats. My problem at this point is from what I read I can use all of the above equipment to replace the existing equipment. The thing I am not sure about is on the air handler the wiring is as follows:
-----------------A/H-------------Zone Control
Blue wire - transformer---------transformer
White -----transformer---------transformer
Red ----------Red--------------------Rc
Yellow----------Y---------------------Y1
Orange---------O---------------------O
Green----------G---------------------G
Black-----------W1-------------------E

All makes sense except for the Black! On the new wiring diagram it says to hook up the Second stage heat relay to the W2 and a jumper to E. But I think the Black is the Primary heat not the secondary? Or does the Orange control the Primary heat when connected to the O and the Black control the Aux Heat & the Emergency Heat?

Y is primary heat. W1 is second stage. O is reversing valve. When the tstat is on cool , O is energized to reverse the flow of refrigerant to cool.

More Problems

HELP!

I finished wiring the new thermostats and the zone system. After working out a few bugs I finshed the wiring as follows.

A/H Lenox-----------------------Zone System
Model # B24Q415-3P------------HW Emm-3U

----Y------------------------------Y1 w/Jumper to W1
----O------------------------------O
----W1----------------------------E w/Jumper to W2
----G------------------------------G
----R------------------------------Rc/Rh factory installed
-------------------------------------------Jumper

-------------------Thermostats-----------------
HW RTH7400D-------------------HW Emm-3U Zone
----R------------------------------------R
----C------------------------------------C
----E------------------------------------W1/E
----Y------------------------------------Y1
----G------------------------------------G
----Aux----------------------------------W2
----O/B----------------------------------O/B
----L-------------------------------------L

Zone System dip Switches

1-on 2-off 3-on 4-off 5-on 6-on 7-off 8-off 9-on 10-on
11-off 12-off

I Programed the Thermostats for multistage Heat pump with aux heat and Emerg Heat.

Now that said heres the problem.

System comes on when Heat is called for dampers work but when the zone is satisfied and the thermostat shuts off the heat the system keeps running as well as the compressor. The only way I can shut it down is by turning off the breaker.

I took the jumper off the Emm-3U from the E to the W2 and all still works so far but still won't shut off.
Any Ideas?

Why do you have Y and W1 jumped together? That means everytime it calls for cooling you get heat at the same time...

Wiring

The way I understand it is that my heat pump system only has one power relay so they are jumpered together. When the system calls for heat or cool it powers the system and when it calls for cooling it powers the O/B which is wired O and that reverses the flow of freon so that the system cools otherwise it heats. Can any one verify this!

New Problem

See my Post #4. I finally checked the A/C side of the system and it comes on as called for and when the zone is satisfied it shuts the system down like it should. So the only problem is when I am in heat mode the system won't shut down when the thermostat is satisfied.

Thumbs down

With over 30 years working with heat pumps. There is no way I would put one in and zone control a heat pump.

when I zone heat pumps with honeywell ultra zone I use straight cool tstat and let the zone board control the heat pump, that said it sounds like a conflict between the board and the tstas

Maybe I said that wrong. Are you using a heat pump thermostat and do you have backup heat? W2 is 2nd stage not W1 sorry. A heat pump thermostat will have W2.
