Setting the balance point for a Lennox HP12 heat pump

Need to set the point where heat pump switches from Electric heat to Gas. I think currently its set to 32 degrees. Also would like to hear expert opinions on where to set it to?

thanks

Is this a new system? If so, have you asked installing dealer? Balance point depends upon alot of factors, primarily the insulation properties of your home and your family's individual comfort level. This is getting a little late in the heating season. My approach is to start at 32 degrees fah and then adjust downward by several degrees. When you find the outside temp where your HP can not maintain the inside thermostat's setpoint, then you are very close to your home's balance point. I like to set the lockout several degrees above the balance point. I have mine set at 29-30 degrees. Hope this is helpful.

Good LucK!

TigerDunes,

Thanks for the reply. No its the system that came with the house that I bought. It has a Fuelmaster box sitting next to furnace but there is nothing to adjust anywhere. I guess I can call any Heating/Cooling guy to adjust it. I was just trying to see if its something I can do.

Thanks

On my heat pump, the balance point is set on the programmable, dual fuel thermostat. Outdoor temperature sensing is done by a thermistor on the outdoor unit.
