Bad compressor

I just had a guy out here to look at my air conditioner. According to him my 4 ton compressor is bad. I received a quote of $2900 to fix it.

Any advise on what to do. Can I replace this myself?

I'm looking for my manuals so I can add details about my system. Thanks in advance.

2900 at that price you could replace the outdoor unit!

I would say no you can't do it yourself and you could replace the whole unit for that.

Wink

You dont say how old it is. If to get a new unit or just a compressor. But like said thats to high for just a compressor. Also if old and you put in a new high side and coil of over 15 seer you can get a tax credit for $300
