GE Heat Pump Setup For Cooling Only

Good Day,

This is my second attempt to post a question, please forgive me if you see the message twice.

We received a free (used) GE Model BWB 730A100A0 heat pump condensing unit. We have a small budget, and have connnected this unit to an existing "A" coil in a gas forced air furnace. (The old condensing unit was not a heat pump and had failed).

The wiring diagram for the GE heat pump is unreadable and I'm poorly educated on the controls for heat pumps.

The unit is currently working "partially OK" in cooling mode. (I bypassed the reversing valve so the unit will stay in the cooling cycle.) I'm using the old Honeywell "round" thermostat.

The problem is that the unit appears to be going into defrost mode after running for a couple hours.

Any ideas on:
- how to bypass the timer and/or outside air sensor.
- other steps to make this system work.

The unit location is not at my location, its about 50 miles away and on my next trip I'll make the wiring changes.

Thanks in advance for your input...... Tim

Wink

Out of the box here. But Think just AC. Id wire the 24V com to the contactor and 4 way valve. The Y from stat to the other side of contactor and 4 way valve. Just cut the defrost board out
W is heat and G is furnace blower.
