doublewide air ducts

I have bad duct board and need to replace with flex or other material. I have the standard 4" x 10" registers and could easily change flanges to the duct type, but I'm not sure how to size the ducting to ensure that I can maintain the static pressure required for my a/c unit. The cross over duct is 12" flex and provides adequate supply to the trunk line so is 12" for front and 12" for rear the way to go then down size at some point?
Also, if registers are 40 sq. " then should I strive to have 8" duct to registers or 6"?

Wink

You dont say what you have there as to size of the AC or heat. Ill try this .you should have 400cfm per ton Like a 3 ton will have 1200 cfm now off the trunk line or what . 10" pipe is 400cfm now you can take 2-- 8 " pipes out of the 10" then 2 6" out of each 8". So now you have 4 6" runs at a 100cfm that can go to 4 4X10" registers.
