12 Seer Split Heat pump change to a/c condenser

I have a 1996 12 seer split heat pump split system efficiency heat pump. Made By Goodman. put in with the house being built.

The previous owners side tracked the heat pump, and put in a gas furnace for heat and the pump does not come on when we turn on the heat. Which is GREAT.

We want to pull out this unit and hook up a plain a/c condensor outside. Is there any problem doing this? Would we save money on electrical? Our house is approximately 2300 square feet, so don't know how high of a seer to get..or what models are the best?

Wink

If the unit work fine for AC why change it?????. Units put in like that run the heatpump for heat down just so low a temp then the gas unit takes over for heatand he heat pump turns off.

I agree....why change the unit if it is cooling well. If the heat cycle for the heatpump isn't working/not hooked up, it won't cost anymore to run than a non-heatpump a/c unit.
