I am having problems getting the 8320 to correctly controll the heat pump. It is connected but I can only get heat to work. I have had 2 different people that do HVAC for a living look at this and couldn't figure it out. although, neigher one is Trane certified.
I have the honeywell thermostat setup for 2h/1c w/ Aux heat. Everytime I set the thermostat to cool I get heat. Also does this when heat is on. I think I have the thermostat configured correctly for the heat pump, but not 100% sure.
Here's the info on the Trane Unit.
Indoor - TWE049E13FB0
Outdoor - TWY042B100A1
The condensor is wired with W1, W2, and W3 all connected together to the white wire.
The ICM SC2200 thermostat (original) unit is wired: This setup works currently without any problems.
Yellow - Y1
Green - G
White - W2
Orange - O
Red - R
Blue - C
The new Honeywell 8320 unit is wired.
Yellow - Y - (1st stage compressor contactor)
Green - G - (Fan relay)
White - Aux (Auxiliary Heat Relay)
Orange - O/B - (Changeover valve for heat pumps)
Red - RC combined with R - (R - Heating Power) Rc - (Cooling power)
Blue - C - (Common)
I also tried the white wire on the E terminal but it didn't help. Do I need to wire Aux and E together? Other terminals available are:
Y2 - Second stage compressor contactor.
L - Reset
E - Emergency Heat Relay.
S1 and S2 - these are for additional sensors.
Thanks,
Rick

Wired or configured right? Touch the 2 blank boxes by the middle box. I think you 1 cool 2 heat electic back up? In 0170 you want 7 8 or 9. In 0180 1 in 0190 0 in 0200 0. I'm not sure you need to go in and read. If the right screen isn't showing, the 2 boxes aren't blank touch the word system.

For 0170 I have it set to 7
0180 isn't shown. The manual says that it is only available for a conventional system. It Heat pump is selected it defaults to 1
0190 is set to 0. I have also tried 1.
0200 is set to 0 as well.
I'm confused, I thought it was configured right. This is a heat pump correct? If you can help me in any way, and need more info, please let me know.
Thanks,
Rick

I'll try to check that our this evening when I get home. I also read that I may need to jumper Y to W? Since I don't have a W, is that meaning AUX? If so where does the white wire go?
Thanks,
Rick

If the suction gets cold. Put orange back together. Move the orange to y at the stat. Does the sution get cold? If it does check the connection at air handler. Or try another wire. If it doesn't get cold at any of the jumps we'll start looking from there.

Thanks Krankyoleman, I finally got someone at Honeywell to talk to me last night from support. I had to tell them that I had the RTH8500D thermostat instead of the TH8320 thermostat. Once I made it over that and talked to the guy he told me to try connecting AUX and E together with a jumper with (W) White on Aux. I did that and everything seems to be working properly now. I appreciate your time and troubleshooting help. For something that I thought would be pretty easy sure tured into a lot of research and help. I even had 2 people that work HVAC for a living take a look at it and they didn't figure it out. Neither one of them specialized in Trane, and said that Trane and Lennox do things a little differently.
Thanks again,
Rick

Hello Rick,
Could you please post what is your final setup? I have the same issue. Within the system installer what option do you have selected 7, 8 or 9? What about the other menus?
About wire W. I do not know where to connect it to. Does it go to AUX or E ?

Hi, sorry about that. I had to end up calling Honeywell and getting them to help me. That was challenging, but I finally made it through it. Anyway, the (w) went to AUX and I had to put a jumper between AUX and E. It really doesn't matter if you connect it to AUX or E since they are wired together.
