Would appreciate the advice of all on the use of heat pumps in south central Pennsylvania. The building contractor is adding space to our home which will require additional heating and cooling. Our first idea was to install a separate oil furnace and A/C system in the basement below the addition. The house is now heated by an oil furnace and central air. The recommendation has been made that we install a heat pump for the new addition. I have had no experience with heat pumps but hear that they do not work well in cold climates and are noisy. Would appreciate any and all advice. Will the heat pump cool adequately in summer and winter? All advice appreciated.

We have 2 EL wall heaters with fans in our cottage. Fans work fine, but minimal heat is coming out only at the bottom portion of the unit, even with thermostat turned on high. Is there an element that can be easily/inexpensively replaced, or does this mean the Whole Unit needs replaced? Last year the heaters worked fine.
