what is the veriable when aux heat will kick in? the temp can't keep up to set temp when will it switch on.

Most is in just what tstat you have there.
But it should work like If the pump cant keep up with the heat and the tstat drops 1o .Then the tstat should turn on the electric elements to bring the temp up. This is why with a heat pump you dont want to set the temp back and then try and kick it up . That turns on the elements and cost you more to run than the pump. Now with some of the new tstat out that are program. If they have a set back temp and then it comes on to kick up the temp . It will do it slow so as not to turn on the elements. I still go with set the temp on a heatpump and let it alone.
