Hi, I’m looking to replace the auxiliary drain pan under a Corsaire air handler (model - FBHA 17J14SFDAI) that is in the attic. Unfortunately the pan has considerable corrosion. At least I think it is the emergency drain pan. The unit is mounted on top of the pan and the pan looks to be the actual base/foundation of the unit. So I know a little about the situation when a service individual inspects the job, I thought I might ask some questions. How are the air handlers mounted on top of these pans? Are we talking major labor involved? Is the pan easily detached from the unit. It’s not really a big unit, it is part of a Rheem Classic 10 heat pump. This unit is about 6 or 7 years old I believe. What should I be aware of before I delve into this task? Thanks for any input. R.W.

I have what I have been told is a plit system. One main stat (up stairs) and one that opens and closes the dampers for down stairs I guess. The problem I'm having is that the unit works fine with air up and down stairs. However, during the winter i have challenges getting heat down stairs. Upstairs it smokes. But down stairs it barely trickles out. I have had the original installers come out and check the unit. They have replaced several dampers. They don't last a year. I think there may be a board problem. Fortunately, we have not had any really cold weather yet, but I think it coming would like to be able to sit down stair and not run upstairs for heat. Any ideas.
