Rheem Heatpump - Frost buildup
We have a Rheem heatpump that came with the house. Last year it worked fine until end of January at which point frost built up on the inside and it started making a loud noise. This year again in was fine but the frost/noise are back. When I looked at the controls (no schematic) I found disconnected, lying on the bottom, what looks like a relay. Could it be that this controls the defrost cycle and the previous owner had simply bypassed it?

We are going blind... Rheem does not have any wire diagram on the web for us to download, so You may be best to call for a Rheem/Ruud dealer to come out and take a look at it.
But, if you are able to take a photo of your control, and this "relay", we can tell you for sure if that is for defrost or what.
