compressor works on cool but no for heat.
Nordyne B3VM A/C-heat pump
My a/c works fine, compressor comes on, nice cold air. When calling for heat, the indoor fan and heat coil comes on but the compressor outside doesn't come on.
All breakers are on, no fuses are blown and there's nothing
obviously damaged. Outside temp is around 60deg.
I'm good with electronics, where should I start?
Can I bypass the indoor control board and call for heat?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ok, I did a little research on my ritetemp programmabe tstat.
I have a heat pump with aux heat, (heat strips)
To eliminate the t-stat as the problem. If I were to jumper these wires to the RH terminal (tied to the RC terminal), shouldn't the fan and heat pump come on for heat?
Orange (changeover valve)
yellow (compressor)
Green (fan)

I believe I may have found the problem. On the back of the tstat on heat, I get a short between Rh/Rc to G, but no short to Y or O. On cool, I get a short to Y. I'm going to home depot to get another tstat.

Problem fixed. The t-stat I had bought 2 years ago was not a multi-stage tstat. It was only running the heat strips for heat. I didn't even notice til last week when it got really cold here (florida) and the temp wouldn't go above 69. I always just thought I had a crappy heater. I bought a new new tstat and it all works fine now.
