I have an electric furnace (stand alone unit) that as of today will run until it trips the breaker. Although it will trip before reaching the set temperature. It is on a 100amp breaker by itself and the breaker gets very hot before tripping. The filters are new and the unit has been oiled and cleaned; resetting the breaker only starts the same routine again. Please advise as i am freezing.

I have not seen this asked in any of my searches so I hope someone will have an answer. I am trying to figure out just how much electric baseboard heaters will run under certain variables. For the purposes of this question, the criteria will be as follows: Outside temp is 0 Inside temp is 70 10' x 10' room with some glass and a door Excellent insulation I calculated the heat loss ~4150 BTU. 4150 BTU converted to kW is ~1200. If you had a 1200 kW heater in this room and the temp was 0 outside and thermostat set to 70 inside, would the heater not run 24/7? Basically under these conditions you will use 1200 kW of electricity to maintain these conditions correct? Same variables only with outside temp at 25. Heat loss is now 800 kW. This means that a 1200 kW heater will run 66% of the time correct? It is easy enough to figure the cost to run an electric heater but the one thing that has never been made clear is exactly how much run time is involved in a days time under particular conditions. How can one calculate the cost of a heater if they do not know how much run time it will have?
